This post contains a list of those software that are OR can be used for routine office works.

The works/tasks like documents creation, editing,  spread sheet work and creating animations are some of the tasks that are done on these office productivity suites

The list of these software is as follows:

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is an office suite of desktop applications, servers and services for the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, introduced by Microsoft on August 1, 1989. Initially a marketing term for a bundled set of applications, the first version of Office contained Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Over the years, Office applications have grown substantially closer with shared features such as a common spell checker, OLE data integration and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications scripting language. Microsoft also positions Office as a development platform for line-of-business software under the Office Business Applications brand. Office is reported to now be used by over a billion people worldwide.

The current versions are Office 2010 for Windows, released on June 15, 2010; and Office 2011 for Mac OS X, released October 26, 2010. The new Office 2013 (version 15 of the Office suite) is rumored to release around December 2012.

SUN Star Office

StarOffice, known briefly as Oracle Open Office before its discontinuation in 2010, was a proprietary office suite. It was originally developed by Star Division which was acquired by Sun Microsystems in 1999. Sun was itself acquired in 2009 by Oracle Corporation.

StarOffice supports the OpenOffice.org XML file format, as well as the Open Document standard, and can generate PDF and Flash formats. It includes templates, a macro recorder, and a software development kit (SDK).

The source code of the suite was released in July 2000, creating a free, open source office suite called OpenOffice.org, which subsequent versions of StarOffice were based on, with additional proprietary components.

In March 2009, a study showed that StarOffice only had a 3% market share in the corporate market.

In April 2011, Oracle announced the discontinuation of Oracle Open Office as part of the decision to turn OpenOffice.org into a "purely community-based project".
