Folder Redirection Troubleshooting

Folder Redirection is the concept of keeping Windows Created User Documents Data Folders on a shared network drive (Network Resource).

By keeping folder redirection ON, The access to user’s data is redirected to the shared Network Server.

The user will see them under its usual location: “My Documents”, “My Pictures”, “My Music” and others (For Windows 7 and onwards). But the actual data is located on a shared server. The user accesses them remotely and the caching is enabled/disabled i.e. defined by the Folder Redirection Policy setting under “Make available offline” Data.

For troubleshooting Folder Redirection specific issues follow the following general steps:

1.      Enable logs for Folder Redirection:-->

Use the following Registry Key to enable Logs for Folder Redirection:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics

      Set: FdeployDebugLevel    =    Reg_DWORD    0x0f

2.      The log file when enabled is available at the following location:

log file @ “%windir%\debug\usermode\fdeploy.log

                                                                                                                                                                \ W

Now read the log and troubleshoot.
