Rebuilding the FRS Structure on the Local Server Machine

In case we need to re-build the FRS structure for the Default Replication Group of SYSVOL on the Server’s Disk, we can follow the following steps:

·        Check Basic Troubleshooting Steps as mentioned in here: Basic Troubleshooting Steps.

·        Check the Bindings on the NIC Card and make sure that they are correct.

·        Ensure Networking is good and Communication is ON for Active Directory and Related Services.

The Following steps are specific to Rebuilding the FRS Folder Structure on the Local Server Hard Disk Drive:

·        Took backup of the Policies folder

·        Recreated structure of SYSVOL on the PDC

·        Recreated Junction points using Linkd command

linkd "%systemroot%\SYSVOL\staging areas\chapin-law.com" %systemroot%\SYSVOL\staging\domain

Linkd %systemroot%\SYSVOL\SYSVOL\chapin-law.com %systemroot%\SYSVOL\domain

Overall Troubleshooting continued:

·        Since there are no Group Policies configured: we recreated the default policy structure by the following:

+ ran dcgpofix and recreated the default domain / and default domain controllers policy (31b and 6ac)

+ net stop ntfrs (stop FRS)

+ set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters\Cumulative Replica Sets\GUID burflag=D4

+ net start ntfrs (start FRS: File Replication Service)

We got event id ntfrs 13516 : this confirms that this step is successful and FRS is successfully replicating data in the Domain Now.

Now on the second dc

+ recreated structure of SYSVOL

+ Recreated Junction points

+ net stop ntfrs

+ set burflag=D2

+ net start ntfrs

We got event id ntfrs 13516

Final Resolution steps:

We added the secondary DNS server (which was going to ISP) to the Forwarders tab in the DNS Management Console and then removed it from the TCP/IP Properties.

We ran the command “ net share” and found that NETLOGON was not shared.

When we checked sysvol structure : it was broken and we didn’t had scripts folder

We checked junction points : they were broken

Then we did the following :

+ Took backup of the Policies folder

+ Recreated structure of SYSVOL on the PDC

+ Recreated Junction points using Linkd command

Since there are no Group Policies configured : we recreated the default policy structure by the following :

+ ran dcgpofix and recreated the default domain / and default domain controllers policy (31b and 6ac)

+ net stop ntfrs (stop FRS)

+ set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters\Cumulative Replica Sets\GUID burflag=D4

+ net start ntfrs (start FRS: File Replication Service)

We got event id ntfrs 13516 : this confirms that this step is successful.

Now on the second dc

+ recreated structure of SYSVOL

+ Recreated Junction points

+ net stop ntfrs

+ set burflag=D2

+ net start ntfrs

We got event id ntfrs 13516
